BRASS FOR BEGINNERS provides educational tools for both beginning and developing music students. Its main teaching tool is the natural trumpet, which it uses to teach beginning brass students, and its method is organized around a historical narrative dubbed “Around the World in 21 Trumpets: A Brass Odyssey.” The curriculum connects this history to learning the fundamentals of brass playing in a unique and organic way, and has proven to be an effective introduction to learning any of the modern brass instruments. In addition, the cross-disciplinary approach forges cultural connections for young students who are often unaware of the rich heritage of lip-blown instruments. Brass for Beginners is proud to be associated with EMAP and to share its experience of creating educational material for young audiences that encompasses not only the how of lip-blown instruments but also the who, what, why, where, and when.
